Getting error: ‘Logon failed: PRM DBAccess Error: Connection Type  is not valid or supported’ when trying to connect to SDK 5.0
Status: Reviewed
Version(s): 5.0

Problem: Getting error: ‘Logon failed: PRM DBAccess Error: Connection Type  is not valid or supported’ when trying to connect to SDK 5.0
Problem: Getting error: ‘ERROR => VDB.Connect; Exception=Unknown Connection Type’ when trying to connect to SDK 5.0
Fix:

This is a known problem in Primavera 5.0 SDK.

Workaround:

Edit the registry and make sure the ‘AliasName’ String is in the following keys:

Note: Always backup the registry before making any edits in case the wrong entries are deleted.  By exporting the registry first, you will have a back up to restore.  Open the Registry by going to Start, Run and typing “REGEDIT”. Go to File, Export…, select ALL at the bottom and select a filename and location.

HKEY_Current_User\Software\Primavera\Databases\PM\CurrentAlias
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Primavera\Databases\PM\CurrentAlias

If it is not there, highlight the key on the left and right-click anywhere on the right.  Select New, String Value.  Give it the name ‘AliasName’ and correct value.

Note: AliasName should equal the Database Alias being used for the SDK in the Control Panel.  By default it is PMSDK.  To find what yours is called, go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Data Sources (ODBC), System DSN, PrimaveraSDK (5.0 default install gives it the name ‘Primavera SDK’).
